...and I am very excited. I'm just annoyed that my work commitments are getting in the way of attending some cool stuff. That said, here's my busy schedule:
Tomorrow: ALIA Top End Group have a LIW stall at the Parap Markets, which will be a fun morning out.
Tuesday:
9:30-10:30am - Margaret Dent, Curator of Exhibitions at NLA, will be giving a talk at NTL on exhibition practicalities e.g. why do an exhibition anyway? selecting material that will not only tell a good story but will look good in a display, timelines for the process, keeping track of information, checklists, writing captions, necessary
environmental conditions for displays, desirable characteristics of display cases, display periods and changeovers etc.
12 midday - Margaret will be giving this month's Lunchtime Talk at Speaker's Corner Cafe all about the National Treasures exhibition, which is currently being displayed in Darwin.
5:30pm - Moyra Macallister, the ALIA copyright officer, is running a copyright workshop at NTL, followed by drinks and dinner.
Thursday:
8:30-9:30am - Tony Boston, Assistant Director-General, Resource Sharing Division, National Library of Australia, presents "Enhancing our Visibility in the Online World".
The National Library of Australia is currently promoting its strategic directions for the next decade at locations around Australia. Tony Boston’s presentation will report on the Library’s directions and particularly its work to enhance access to library collections and increase their exposure in the rapidly changing online world.
Lunchtime - Working the Darwin City Council Libraries stall at Casuarina Shopping Centre
Saturday: ALIA Top End Group quiz night at CDU.
I'm particularly annoyed, though, that I'm going to miss Margaret Dent's floor talk at the National Treasure's exhibition on Friday. I'm also missing out on drinks on the Territory Library verandah on Wednesday afternoon. Bum. :(
So what's everybody else getting up to for LIW? I'm curious to know - being in a small city like Darwin, this feels like a big programme going on, but I'm sure there's lots of other exciting stuff happening in other cities!
